UK operator KCOM has announced that it is on target to have made its ‘Lightstream’ branded fibre-to-the-premises connectivity available to 150,000 properties across Hull and East Yorkshire by the end of this year. With that figure representing 75% of all the homes and businesses within its network footprint in East Yorkshire, a press release by the telco also noted that it had recently connected its 50,000th residential customer to a Lightstream service, while also confirming that it is now providing fibre connectivity to 5,000 local businesses. Looking to the near future, KCOM has said it expects that the number of its customers with fibre broadband will surpass the number it serves via copper connections within the next month.
KCOM’s Executive Vice President Gary Young said of the rollout progress: “I am delighted that we will reach 150,000 properties by the end of 2017, as promised … This is a major milestone for KCOM and will bring real benefits for businesses and households in Hull and East Yorkshire. Providing ultra-fast connectivity to Hull has already established it as the digital capital of the UK and shows our commitment is as strong as ever to create a city that is fit for the 21st Century.’
