According to Q3 2017 figures published by Business Bureau, 81% of Ecuadorian households with Internet access watch at least one of the 70 OTT services available in the country.
More than 51,000 films and 8,000 series are available on-demand and via streaming across various OTT services in Ecuador.
Business Bureau also estimates that the country nears the two million pay-TV subscriber mark, including under-reported and pirate accesses, of which 81% are digital and 58% belong to a satellite TV operator.
Among the top five leading players, DirecTV and América Móvil’s Claro are the only foreign companies. The AT&T direct-to-home (DTH) service tops the market with a 31% share and nearly 600,000 subscriptions, followed by the public telco CNT (22% share), TV Cable (16%), Claro (5%) and Cable Unión (3%).
The market figures reported by the analyst are similar to those published by the telecom authority Arcotel in the summer, which highlighted a flat pay-TV market.
