Spain’s fibre to the home (FTTH) footprint accelerated in September, with the country adding some 173,974 active connections to reach a total of 6.06 million at the end of the month, according to the latest data from communications regulator CNMC. The 1.6 million rise in FTTH lines over the past year more than offset the 1.2 million fall in DSL connections, with the latter now totalling 5.4 million, said the watchdog. There are now over 600,000 more FTTH than DSL lines after the former surpassed the latter in July. HFC lines increased by 23,409 in September to 2.6 million, flat year on year, bringing the fixed broadband total to 14.16 million at the end of the month.
The MasMovil group led the monthly net fixed broadband gains for the eighth consecutive month in September, adding 46,600 lines to reach 2.61 percent of the market, with Vodafone and Telefonica also posting net gains of 36,700 and 11,400 lines respectively to reach 23.22 percent and 41.70 of the market. Orange also posted a net gain, adding 2,700 lines to remain in second place with 28.09 percent of the fixed market, said the CNMC.
