At the end of September 2017, also the end of the third quarter of the year, the number of internet users in Morocco reached 22,564,000 (+33.34%), out of a total of 44.25 million of telecoms services’ users. According to the country’s telecommunications regulatory body (ANRT) which disclosed the data, this puts internet’s penetration rate in the country at 64.74%.
The performance was driven mostly by mobile Internet, which, alone, represented 94.15% of the total number of registered Internet users in the country. The regulator numbered 21.24 million subscribers, thus a 35.17% growth. Maroc Telecom has the biggest mobile Internet share, 45.83%, and it is followed by Orange Maroc with 30.8%. Last is Wana with a 23.37% market share.
In terms of landline internet (ADSL), this market represents 5.71% of the global Internet market of the country. It has recorded 1,288,000 subscribers at the end of September 2017. This is 0.45% increase on a quarterly basis and a 7.8% increase on a year-to-year basis. Concerning market shares, Maroc Telecom holds 99.9% of subscriptions.
