Spanish operator reaches 9 million homes with fiber

Spanish alternative operator Grupo MASMOVIL has announced that it has increased the coverage of its fibre-optic networks to nine million available households in Spain. The telco’s independent network now covers 1.5 million households, while the remaining 7.5 million homes are accessed via a network sharing pact with Orange Espana. Going forward, MASMOVIL says that it will continue to invest in the development of its fibre network and expects to have access to a total of ten million households by the end of the year.

The new households in which MASMOVIL will be able to commercialise its fibre services are located across a total of 42 cities. Further, the telco says that it is poised to begin the commercialisation of its convergent offer in the Balearic and Canary Islands, where it already reaches 340,000 households with FTTH technology.

MASMOVIL currently offers convergent services via its four main brands: Yoigo, MASMOVIL Telecom, Pepephone and Llamaya. The telco reaches 18 million homes with ADSL, while its 4G LTE network covers 85% of the Spanish population.
