Algerie Telecom, ZTE sign fiber-optic deal

Chinese vendor ZTE has signed a framework agreement with Algerie Telecom (AT) to jointly build a full-service GPON network which will ‘deliver a … new fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) experience’, while enabling downlink speeds of 100Mbps. Under the agreement, ZTE will provide AT with an end-to-end turnkey service within one year, helping the operator design and build an active fibre-optic architecture while also offering network management services. It has been claimed that the project will allow the operator to upgrade its business model by offering more innovative and customised services.

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, earlier this month AT inked an agreement with China-based Huawei to deploy a fibre-optic network to homes and businesses across the country. AT’s CEO Adel Khemane said that under the partnership agreement, Huawei will roll out a very high speed broadband network over a period of one year, with more than one million customers set to benefit from the service.
