Bouygues approaches TDF for new FTTH deployment deal

Bouygues Telecom has announced that it has signed a framework agreement to market its services on TDF’s fibre networks.

The news comes as TDF entered the market a year ago as an impartial and open fibre infrastructure operator. As for Bouygues Telecom the deal enables it to offer its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) high speed connectivity to all areas where TDF operates its network.

Olivier Huart, chairman and CEO of TDF, said: "We’re delighted with this new strategic partnership involving Bouygues Telecom in FTTH. TDF enjoys major expertise in building and operating both mobile and fixed networks, which we are able offer telecoms operators to help them speed up the growth of fibre across the whole country."

At the beginning of the year, two French local authorities; Val d’Oise Numérique and Yvelines Numériques (digital Val d’Oise and digital Yvelines), chose TDF to connect 200,000 premises in order to provide high speed internet services to those living in less densely populated areas.

"Bouygues Telecom and TDF have been partners for many years, particularly in mobile phone coverage. This new contract highlights one of our ambitions in FTTH, namely to be present in all of France’s less dense areas, thus enabling Bouygues Telecom to achieve its target of 20 million premises marketed by 2022," added Yves Legrand, EVP of technical operations at Bouygues Telecom.

Back in June, Bouygues Telecom selected Ciena to upgrade its network backhaul and aggregation infrastructure. Bouygues Telecom deployed Ciena’s 6500 Packet-Optical Platform to create a new "SuperCore" network, increasing capacity up to 400G to support surging capacity demands and new high-bandwidth services.
