Facial authentication is gaining a lot of importance in the smartphone industry these days. Since two factor authentication is not satisfactory enough to undermine the threat from the hackers the new solution is the facial recognition. Airports may soon use this technology to help streamline boarding and security lines, though there are still privacy concerns over the implementation. Still, that has not hampered Facebook from testing “a facial recognition feature to help secure your account”.

This feature is only being tested to let users back into accounts they have been locked out of. If the feature is reliable and not easily hacked, it could roll out to more users. There is not much detail on the technology or its implementation nor any implementation timeline, though.
Over the years Facebook has tried a number of ways to help you get back into a locked account. These include asking you to identify photos of your friends to prove you are the actual owner of the profile. Or it allows you to designate several “trusted friends” who receive a code that you can ask them for to unlock your account.
The facial recognition method, if it is successful, would be a great break through for Facebook after Apple.
