MTN Business is rolling out technologies such as LoRaWAN Low Power Wide Area Network and Narrow-Band IoT to support its M2M and IoT platforms, said the company.
Mariana Kruger, GM for IoT Solutions at MTN Business, said the technologies will provide them with a stage to offer tailored propositions to enterprise clients.
Among the solutions implemented on MTN’s IoT platform to date include:
Combating rhino poaching – Low Power Wide Area Network technologies implemented in a game reserve to help combat rhino poaching.
Improving signal to devices – MTN has started experimenting with NB-IoT and CatM1 in urban areas to strengthen signals.
Smart water metering – MTN and Huawei launched an NB-IoT water metering solution to highlight the benefits of NB-IoT to utilities.
Cargo Connect – A digital lock that secures goods being transported, and only allows them to be accessed with a one-time PIN at a designated location.
MTN said all its IoT solutions are secure and encrypted, and feature full support from a dedicated network.
Kruger said the growth prospects for IoT and M2M are massive, particularly for industries and sectors “buckling from inefficiencies owing to lack of access to these types of solutions”.
