Russian mobile operator Beeline, controlled by the Veon group, has launched its LTE services in in the city of Norilsk in the Northern part of the Krasnoyarsk region. The operator also transferred its 3G and LTE traffic from a satellite link to a fibre-optic link.
A new fibre-optic backbone line of 950 km has recently been built to Norilsk. Capacity of the line totals 40 Gbps. The new line will provide the city of around 180,000 inhabitants with broadband services. Residents of the neighbouring town of Dudinka will also be able to use broadband services.
