Mohammed bin Rashid launches Arab e-platform for innovation tools

Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has affirmed that the UAE adopts an innovative methodology in governance, noting that innovation has become a future necessity for the development of world nations.

He made this statement during a visit to the Mohammed bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation in Dubai, where he witnessed part of the training programme of the 3rd batch of the Public Sector Innovation Diploma participants.

During the visit, Sheikh Mohammed launched a website for a package of innovation tools in the Arabic language in the presence of H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai; Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and the Future; Khalifa Saeed Suleiman, Director-General of the Protocol and Hospitality Department in Dubai; and Huda Al Hashimi, Assistant to the Director-General for Strategy and Innovation.

"Life has taught us that the development of humans is linked to their ability to come up with innovative solutions to any challenges, and therefore, we have embraced innovation as a methodology for grooming qualified UAE nationals to lead our journey, and contribute to the development and prosperity of our country and the happiness of our people," His Highness Sheikh Mohammed said.

"I have followed the work undertaken in the diploma programme, since its inception, and I am happy with what it has achieved with the previous two batches. We want to build on these achievements and present new, better and more innovative models while foreseeing the challenges and making a difference. We want to have a clear impact on creating solutions for the challenges besetting primary sectors, including education, health and energy," he added.

The Mohammed bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation launched the activities of the third batch of the Public Sector Innovation Programme in May 2017, in co-operation with the Imperial College in London, which is one of the exceptional international centres in innovation, having some 53 participants from the local and federal authorities.

During his visit to the Mohammed bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation, the Vice President launched the Arabic e-platform for a package of innovative tools that the Centre has designed, in co-operation with the National Foundation for Science, Technology and Arts in the UK, NESTA. It aims to build the capacities of the UAE nationals through innovative and scientific foundations, which will turn innovation into an institutional and community culture for achieving the UAE Vision 2021 to make it one of the most innovative countries in the world.

The manual explains how employees can implement the innovation tools and use them in their daily work to achieve better results, improve their understanding of the fundamentals of the innovation process and trends, and study the most important global experiences. During his visit, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed viewed the projects and initiatives that the Centre supervises and implements and was briefed by the official team in charge about their process of work and the role of the Centre in promoting the culture of innovation in governmental work.

In its third edition, the innovation diploma covers three areas, namely, establishing the innovation concepts, and presenting and implementing the advanced innovation tools; leading innovation, as well as implementing the growth and innovation sustainability concepts; and conducting a knowledge tour of the headquarters of the Imperial College in London.

The Vice President launched the Government Innovation Expert Diploma in 2015 to implement the directions of the UAE government to build a generation of UAE nationals to lead innovation. The activities of the first batch started on 26th April, 2015, in the presence of 55 participants from local and federal authorities.
