KT to provides high speed Internet to US

KT’s innovative technology “GiGA Wire” has pushed into the U.S. market for the first time. The service using copper lines instead of fiber-optic cables allows internet speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second (Gbps) that is 10 times faster than before. KT signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the city of Boston in June to establish the GiGA Wire service system in Boston.

KT announced on September 17 that it held a GiGA Wire Internet launch ceremony at Hibernian Hall in Boston and started providing the service to the city. The ceremony was attended by KT Chairman Hwang Chang-gyu and Boston CIO Jascha Franklin.

Boston, one of America’s oldest cities, has a large number of buildings which are over 60 years old, so it was not easy to upgrade the network infrastructure.

However, KT’s advanced technology can improve their internet environment without damaging old buildings and it has received rave responses.

In particular, the city of Boston has aimed to provide high-speed Internet service to all homes and firms by improving Internet infrastructure through the U.S. city’s Digital Equity Project. The latest cooperation has come after KT provided its strategy and technology to make the world in where anyone can use Internet without inconvenience and difficulties.
