XL Axiata extends 4G footprint

Mobile network operator (MNO) XL Axiata has added the area of Bangka Belitung to its 4G coverage area as part of the ongoing deployment as it continues to expand LTE services in Sumatra and the surrounding islands.

The cellco’s network went live in Pangkal Pinang earlier this week (13 September) which the company hopes will also support local economic potential development programmes – including Bangka Belitung’s tourist industry.

The 4G network is present in five cities/regencies in Bangka: Pangkal Pinang City, Bangka Regency, West Bangka Regency, Central Bangka Regency, and South Bangka Regency. In total, more than 80 base transceiver stations (BTS) have already been deployed in the area. Meanwhile, in Belitung, XL Axiata has rolled out its advanced mobile internet in Belitung District and East Belitung Regency, served by a total of more than 90 4G BTS. Taking Sumatra as a whole, XL Axiata has rolled out LTE in more than 123 cities/regencies, with a target of 126 cities/districts there.
