Entel has now extended its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network to Tupiza, Uyuni and Villazón, in the Potosí department, which is getting fibre-based services for the first time.
Along with improved connectivity, the area will gain access to Entel’s convergent offerings, including Internet, IPTV, VoIP and mobile. However, broadband speeds won’t exceed 20Mbps for residential customers and 50Mbps for corporate clients.
Since the company’s FTTH was made commercially available in May, 90,000 homes have been passed.
According to Entel GM Oscar Coca, the ambitious strategy is set to exceed 250,000 fibre-connected homes before the end of the year.
Last week, the public telco announced it had reached an agreement to build a fibre network across Peru to reach the Pacific submarine cable and increase Bolivia’s connectivity.
