Altice USA says that it has begun design and construction of fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) infrastructure to several hundred thousand homes in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut and that it is on track to provide Altice FTTH connectivity to a million homes by the end of next year.
“We are incredibly pleased with the progress we are making on our fiber investment and look forward to lighting up this new, advanced network to enable innovative products and services to support our customers’ connectivity needs well into the future,” said CEO Dexter Goei in a press release.
The company also said that 60 percent of its Suddenlink footprint has access to 1 Gbps service. This includes recent launches of the service in seven cities in Missouri, Arkansas and Oklahoma. Altice also has tripled speeds in its Optimum footprint and now offers 400 Mbps residential and 450 Mbps business services.
Altice FTTH
Altice acquired Suddenlink in July 2015 and Cablevision in May 2016. The company has 4.9 million residential and business customers in 21 states. Europe based Altice NV and Altice USA issued an IPO in June. Trading began on June 22.
The company has made a number of moves since the IPO, such as the creation of a global branding strategy and the formation of Altice Business, which encompasses the business divisions of Lightpath, Optimum Business and Suddenlink. The new entity will serve 375,000 business across Altice USA’s footprint.
However, perhaps the most significant domestic move – and one that likely led to the Monday announcement about its fiber progress – is that the operator is bypassing DOCSIS 3.1 in favor of FTTH for a large part of its serving area.
