German pay-TV operator Sky Deutschland will launch its OTT service for sports fans in Switzerland on August 17, 2017.
With the multiscreen service exclusively unveiled by Broadband TV News three weeks ago, all sports for which Sky owns the broadcast rights in Germany and Austria can be streamed in Switzerland through the web (on PC and Mac) and via iOS and Android apps on smartphones and tablets (including AirPlay and Chromecast).
The live sports line-up includes the German Bundesliga, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, DFB Cup, handball, tennis, Formula 1, ice-hockey and golf.
In the forthcoming months, an app for smart TV sets and Apple TV will be released. By the end of the year, Sky wants to also make the OTT service available on the TV platforms of Swiss cable and IPTV operators UPC, Swisscom and Sunrise.
Sky Sport will cost CHF19.90 (€17.50) per month; a day pass is offered for CHF9.90 (€8.70).
“With the launch of Sky Sport in Switzerland, we offer our unique sports portfolio to Swiss sports fans and reach new target groups,” said Dr Holger Enßlin, Managing Director Legal, Regulatory and Distribution at Sky Deutschland. “Besides the web, smartphone and tablet, we will roll out the app on further devices and platforms in collaboration with different partners.”
