Open Fiber launches in Genoa

Italian wholesale ISP Open Fiber has announced the launch of its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network in the port city of Genoa, bringing its total coverage to twelve markets across the country. The company is investing EUR60 million in the deployment of its Genoan FTTH network, which currently offers internet access at speeds of up to 1Gbps to around 21,000 premises, while a further EUR40 million is earmarked for expansion to five other Ligurian cities – La Spezia, Savona, Sanremo, Imperia and Chiavari – in 2018. Services are being marketed by retail partners Wind Tre and Vodafone Italy. Open Fiber, which is backed by utility group Enel and state investment firm Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP), already has live FTTH networks in Bari, Bologna, Cagliari, Catania, Milan, Naples, Padua, Palermo, Perugia, Turin and Venice, and is planning to launch in Florence.
