Google to help improve Liberian internet services

The New Dawn newspaper reports that US search engine giant Google has embarked on a major project to work with service providers in Liberia to improve access and availability of internet-related services. The project will be implemented by its partner C-Squared in the capital Monrovia, with the country’s president Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf expressing her hope that Google’s arrival in Liberia will help solve internet access problems. Mrs Sirleaf is confident that the high speed project will boost Liberia’s business potential and efficiency, with benefits expected in the health sector, education and agriculture among other areas.

The president noted that in previous C-Squared initiatives, Google has provided experience in designing and building shared metro fibre infrastructure in African cities such as Kampala and Accra. She announced that USAIDwill provide USD10 million for technology-focused programmes like health information systems, e-Government and digital financial systems.
