Telecom Fiji plans to upgrade connectivity

Telecom Fiji Limited’s Next Generation High Speed Broadband Network is expected to be completed before the year ends.

At the moment TFL has covered over 70 per cent of Viti Levu installing new network cabinets.

General Manager Strategy and Marketing, Sanjay Maharaj said they are taking what is called the Fiber Network closer to people’s homes.

“If you go around Vatuwaqa along Suva roads and the West, you will see Telecom cabinets being installed.”

As a result, Telecom customers can experience higher speed internet connectivity, Mr Maharaj said.

“Most of our customers view online videos and YouTube so the newly installed technology will help them get much better connection then what they are experiencing now.”

Telecom are also installing Optic- Fibre Network between Rakiraki and Korovou stretch.

Mr Maharaj: “This area has been declared a tax free zone and it doesn’t have any communication links right now.

“This is our way of helping Government initiative in taking the connectivity there, which will enable investors and businesses people to start their businesses.”

He also added that the Southern Cross cable that is coming through to Fiji via Samoa is expected to land in Fiji next year around March.

Mr Maharaj said that once in Fiji, there will be a cable to Savusavu to provide better service to the North.

“TFL is in its planning process stages of rolling out fibre network from Savusavu to Labasa.

“That would enable our North customers to experience high speed internet connectivity that we will be having here in Viti Levu.”
