Sri Lanka Telecom installs IP camera surveillance system

Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) has connected its first colour night vision (CNV) surveillance system, which uses IP surveillance cameras. The project was initiated and funded by the Chief Ministry of the North Central Provincial Council. The system includes more than 100 IP surveillance cameras spanning the important areas of Anuradhapura, Habarana and Polonnaruwa. The colour night vision surveillance camera system is capable of capturing coloured visuals during the day and night.

This surveillance system is enabled with centralized monitoring and connected to a single private network through a fibre optic-based Carrier Ethernet Network (CEN) infrastructure. It provides real-time monitoring capabilities via high bandwidth connectivity to improve road safety, aid tracking crime and other offences that are committed in the streets. It is also expected to boost national security by allowing authorities of the Sri Lanka Police Department to carry out real-time video monitoring, control cameras remotely, as well as record, store and playback videos.

SLT reports it has invested in the upgrade of the telecommunication infrastructure in North Central Provincial Council area with 15km of Fibre optic cables installed exclusively for this project to facilitate public safety, especially during the Poson period, religious festivals and other activities. These main cities covered by the project are identified as transit cities to Colombo, Jaffna, Batticaloa, Matale and Kandy.
