Siemens plans IoT lab in Singapore

Germany's Siemens will launch its largest "internet of things" technology development hub in Singapore.

Siemens will make use of its cloud-based IoT operating system MindSphere to create new digital applications with customers and local educational institutions.

The hub is expected to support the city-state's plan to become a "smart nation" that utilizes digital technology to boost productivity and efficiency in manufacturing, transit and energy.

The German company will start off by setting up a 60-person team in the hub comprised of specialists in data analysis, software development and medical services. Siemens plans to expand the team to 300 people by 2022.

As part of the project, the company also signed agreements with Singapore's Nanyang Technological University to develop autonomous-driving technologies and energy-efficient buildings.
