NTV-Plus offers satellite internet service

The Russian DTH platform NTV-Plus has begun to offer individuals and corporate customers a high-speed, two-way satellite internet service.

According to ComNews, the service is being provided in partnership with Eutelsat Networks, the Russian subsidiary of Eutelsat, and employing the Express-AMU1 satellite.

At present, it is available in the western part of the country.

Receiving the service requires the purchase of separate satellite equipment that costs just under R30,000 (€433).

Installation cost R5,000-7,000, with the subscription fee for individuals being from R275 to R14,000 a month, depending on the tariff chosen.

The service is expected to secure at least 5,000 subscribers in its first year of operation.

TMT Consulting estimates that up to 8 million homes in Russia could potentially be interested in receiving a satellite internet service.
