Calgary-based Galaxy Broadband Communications is launching a new network with the latest Generation 5 High QoS technology.
The new Gen 5, QoS capable technology will be deployed on Galaxy’s Ka Band high powered spot beams to offer much more speed and performance to oil and gas customers in Canada’s Arctic and northern provinces. The first of several new networks will be operational late June. Existing customers will be offered an upgrade program to convert to the new services.
The high-speed capability of the new networks (up to 60 Mbps) on a single VSAT antenna coupled with full Quality of Service (QoS) capability will deliver industry leading performance for today’s critical business applications.

Hodgkinson adds that Galaxy Broadband’s carrier grade networks are engineered to support intense real-time applications beyond simple web traffic and support growth areas like HD video from the wellsite – which the company sees as the next significant trend in the oil and gas industry.
Once Galaxy’s first network becomes operational mid-year, further network beams will be added throughout the year to eventually include full beam coverage.
