In an announcement, Vodafone claims to be Spain’s largest telco in terms of fibre-connected homes. “Thanks to Vodafone’s bet on expanding its entertainment and telecom services across the country, we have become the operator with the largest number of fibre households.”
Vodafone’s IPTV is the telco’s flagship service for fibre packages. The hybrid-TV offering includes linear and video-on-demand (VOD) content, third-party integrated streaming platforms such as Netflix and HBO España, and 4K services.
The British telco also delivers a comprehensive sports offering, including European and Spanish football with La Liga and the Champions League, and motor sports with Moto GP and Formula One.
Having been out of the pay-TV business in Spain for many years, Vodafone relaunched its TV offering after acquiring the fibre operator ONO in mid-2014. Over the past three years, the telco’s pay-TV unit has stabilised at around 1.3 million subscribers, becoming Spain’s second largest operator.
