Wind Hellas reaches 1Gbps in fiber trials

Greek fixed and mobile operator Wind Hellas has achieved speeds of up to 1Gbps on its pilot fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) networks in the city of Kalamata and the Athens suburb of Nea Smyrni. The telco says it is also conducting trials of fibre-to-the-cabinet (FTTC) technology combined with VDSL Vectoring and G.fast, where it has reached peak download speeds of up to 300Mbps, while tests of fibre-to-the-building (FTTB) equipment achieved downlink rates of between 300Mbps and 800Mbps. The firm currently has 100 trial users in the two regions testing its fibre equipment.
