TIM to boost FTTH network in central Italian towns

TIM (Telecom Italia) has announced that work is underway to expand its fibre-optic network to the localities of Calcinaia and Spoltore in the central regions of Tuscany and Abruzzo. The operator said it will roll out 21 kilometers of cable and install 25 fibre-optic cabinets in Calcinaia to give customers access to the internet at speeds of up to 100 Mbps starting in July. The operator will also install 15 kilometers of cables and 23 cabinets in Spoltore to connect customers by the start of next year.

TIM recently committed a EUR 5 billion investment over the next three years to expand its fibre-optic coverage to 95 percent of the Italian population by 2019.
