The Grupo Salinas-owned Mexican triple-play IPTV operator Totalplay has selected ATEME’s Titan virtual encoding solution for its converged headend.
Through the implementation, Totalplay will benefit from hardware abstraction, operational simplicity and service elasticity, aiming to reduce OPEX and CAPEX costs.
Titan is a virtualised software-based encoder-transcoder designed for cable, DTH, DTT and OTT. As a pure-software encoder, it does not make any assumption on the underlying hardware and can run in any environment, removing infrastructure constraints.
“ATEME’s virtual solution implements the functions of an encoder in software, and runs on a virtual machine in data centres. This gives operators the ability to define logical systems by functionality. A virtualised environment will indeed have a much smaller physical footprint than one using dedicated appliances,” explained Robert Oaxaca, country manager for Mexico, ATEME.
