Russian cellco MegaFon has made voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) available to a wider range of smartphones including Apple iPhone 6/7/SE devices. VoLTE comes free of additional user charges and is available on all tariffs for compatible device users. In September 2016 MegaFon claimed a first by launching commercial VoLTE services in Moscow ‘without restrictions’, available initially only to users with a Sony Xperia X smartphone. A MegaFon spokesperson said of the latest VoLTE device launches: ‘We plan to expand the geography of VoLTE services and [across] a range of gadgets with voice communication in 4G standard in the coming months.’
