Telia Sweden, the domestic fixed and mobile unit of telecoms group Telia Company, has announced the launch of voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) services, enabling its private customers to simultaneously surf and talk over the 4G network, as well as experience improved coverage and faster call connection. Previously, only data services were offered over LTE, meaning that voice calls dropped down to 2G or 3G when a call connection took place. Initially, VoLTE will be rolled out to users with handsets from Sony, Samsung and Huawei, but the service will soon also be available to customers with the latest phone models from other major manufacturers. The rollout of VoLTE to Telia’s Swedish enterprise customers is planned for May.
‘We are constantly working to improve and develop the mobile networks in Sweden and to increase the customer experience,’ commented Jonas Hasselberg, head of Telia’s consumer business in Sweden, adding: ‘We already have a world class mobile network and VoLTE is the next step to enable communication on our customer’s conditions.’
