Kazakh mobile operator Altel has launched LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) networks in twelve cities, offering peak theoretical download speeds of up to 225Mbps. Services have been introduced in Astana, Almaty, Shymkent, Oskemen, Taraz, Kyzylorda, Kokshetau, Taldykorgan, Semey, Pavlodar, Kostanay and Petropavlovsk. In May, the technology will also be made available in Karaganda, Atyrau, Aktobe, Aktau and Uralsk. Altel merged with rival firm Tele2 in March last year, though the two cellcos continue to operate under their distinct legacy branding.
