AT&T Mexico’s LTE network now covers more than 78 million people in 171 cities across the country. The 4G rollout commenced in earnest in July 2015, and the network went live in October that year, in just six cities, eventually passing the 100-city mark in September 2016. Going forward, AT&T expects the LTE network to cover 100 million people by the end of 2018.
In other news, AT&T Mexico has agreed to deploy wireless broadband infrastructure covering the Metro CDMX transportation system in Mexico City. The telco will deploy LTE networks covering all twelve underground lines, alongside a Wi-Fi solution covering eleven lines. Wi-Fi will be available for free to the 5.5 million commuters who use the Metro CDMX on a daily basis, with all 350 trains and 175 stations receiving connectivity. The deployment will take three years to complete.
