Afghanistan cuts internet rates by 20%

The Afghan Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT) has reduced internet prices by 20 percent. According to Saed Ahmad Shah Sadaat, technical deputy and acting minister, telecom operators purchased 1 MB internet from Kazakhstan for USD 336, from Pakistan for USD 120 and from Iran for USD 180 before. Operators are now purchasing 1MB internet from Kazakhstan for USD 268, from Pakistan for USD 96 and from Iran for USD 144, which shows a 20 percent reduction for internet prices, the acting minister also said. "Such discounts are applicable from now on and MCIT follows up the issue seriously. If telecom companies do not transfer this discount to the customers, the discount will be taken from them", Sadaat added.
