Wi-Fi UAE rolls out in Ras Al Khaimah

More residents and visitors in the UAE, especially those visiting Ras Al Khaimah, can now avail themselves of free WiFi, with the rollout of the UAE’s country-wide initiative at select locations in the emirate.

So far, the public service, which is in line with the UAE Vision 2021, can now be accessed free of charge at Al Naeem City Centre and Al Naeem Mall in Ras Al Khaimah, two major shopping locations in the northern town.

Dubai-based telecom operator du has introduced the service in a number of public areas that attract huge footfall numbers, such as the Dubai Metro and Tram, malls, Emaar Boulevard Downtown Dubai and Global Village, among others.

It enables users to enjoy fast and free access to all government websites and apps. To date, users have logged at least 1.3 million sessions with the free service since October.

“We are pleased to spread happiness through innovation and connectivity throughout the UAE by rolling out free WiFi access for all – regardless of their mobile service provider," said Jihad Tayara, vice president for business development and partnerships at du.

"Today’s rollout marks an important step in our quest to support the UAE government in achieving country-wide WiFi access in line with Vision 2021.”

WiFi UAE is expected to expand its footprint in more than 450 locations by the end of the year.

Ras Al Khaimah residents also have the option to pay for faster connection through WiFi UAE Premium.

Users only need to log on to the service using any UAE mobile number and choose between WiFi UAE and WiFi UAE Premium, for instant access to high-speed internet to browse, chat and stream videos.
