Chinese Operators see growth in LTE subscribers

China’s three largest mobile telecommunication operators count more than 800 million LTE subscribers, according to the latest available figures from carriers China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom.

China Mobile, which is the world’s largest mobile operators in terms of total connections, ended February with 558.6 million LTE connections, having added approximately 4.8 million new connections in the first two months of the year. The carrier, which launched 4G services in 2013, claimed 853.7 million total connections at the end of February.

China Telecom said it ended January with nearly 126.7 million LTE connections, having reported 216.8 million total connections on its network at the end of January. China Telecom launched 4G services in February 2014.

China Unicom said it ended February with 116.1 million LTE connections, having added 5.6 million connections in the first two months of the year. The telco ended the month with 265.6 million total mobile connections and launched 4G services in March 2014.

Globe launches 4CCA LTE in Manila

Philippines operator Globe Telecom said it has implemented four-channel carrier aggregation technology using the 2.5 GHz band. The carrier said the technology will be capable of generating speeds of up to 400 megabits per second once compatible devices hit the market.

Globe said it has upgraded 110 sites with the technology, mostly in the capital of Manila. The operator is looking to deploy the technology on more than 500 sites this year across areas in Manila as well as areas of North Luzon and South Luzon.
