BlueSky Samoa has confirmed that it has activated its new LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network, with CEO Toleafoa Douglas Creevey calling the launch ‘the biggest milestone and investment in BlueSky’s history’. According to a company media statement, the network utilises carrier aggregation (CA) in the 700MHz and 1800MHz bands, and incorporates multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) technology. At launch the LTE-A network – branded ‘LTE Plus’ – comprises a total of 40 base transceiver stations (BTS), which deliver coverage to around 50% of the Samoan population. Mr Creevey notes that end-users can expect to experience downlink transmission speeds of up to 100Mbps.
