Vodafone Polynesia to launch LTE

French Polynesian wireless provider Pacific Mobile Telecom (PMT), which operates under the Vodafone Polynesia brand via a partnership with the UK-based Vodafone Group, has announced plans to launch 4G LTE services by the end of the year, with a view to achieving full coverage of all of Tahiti by the end of 2018.

The cellco has earmarked XPF500 million (USD4.42 million) for the project and is currently negotiating with equipment suppliers Nokia, Huawei and ZTE regarding the rollout, regional news outlet Megazap writes. Once completed, the network is expected to provide users with average download speeds of around 20Mbps to 30Mbps, roughly three times faster than customers currently receive via Vodafone Polynesia’s 3G network.
