Andorra Telecom selects Huawei to update its FTTH network

The project will run until January 2018 and will introduce Andorra Telecom to the Gigaband era, updating the current EPON fibre network to the new GPON standard, which allows seamless IPTV and Ultra HD streaming experiences.

Under the terms of the agreement, Huawei will deploy its optical line termination (OLT) module MA5800, which delivers ultra-broadband speeds through the NG-PON standard, or next generation passive optical network. The device also runs without the need to update optical distribution networks (ODN), reducing capital expenditures (CAPEX) for Andorra Telecom.

In the initial stage of the project, customers will enjoy up to 300Mbps, but the network will support speeds of up to 10Gbps.

Huawei will also provide Andorra Telecom with optical network terminations (ONT) for end consumers and a Wi-Fi router, so all the fibre services (4K IPTV and video, broadband and HD voice) will be managed through a single device.

Since 2016, there have been no ADSL connections in the country, and all the fixed traffic moves through FTTH networks.
