Ericsson launches new connectivity projects

Ericsson has launched new connectivity projects with Singaporean telecom Singtel and Tanzanian MNO Tigo.

With the former, Ericsson developed Assured+, an IoT connectivity platform designed to offer open architecture so that IoT product and service developers have a common IT basis upon which to build their offerings. In a statement announcing the solution, Ericsson said it is aimed at “eldercare, connected cars and other emerging IoT applications to provide universal connected life management for consumers.”

With Tigo, Ericsson is aiming to bring broadband connectivity to the rural province of Lindi Mtwara. With the support of the Tanzanian government and other MNOs, the organizations are working to bring 3G connectivity as many as 13 million underserved people, with Tigo and Ericsson having just launched the Ericsson Radio System, which they say can significantly cut costs for broadband providers.

The efforts highlight the breadth of Ericsson’s activities in network communications, with Ericsson continuing to support standard technologies like 3G networks while elsewhere pioneering the 5G technologies that will support the emerging Internet of Things.
