Orange Spain is keeping pace with the country’s growing fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) and pay-TV markets.
The telco’s income exceeded €5 billion for the full year, with a 7.9% growth between Q4 2016 and the same period in 2015, and EBITDA reached €724 million for the second half of the year, 11.7% up on the year before.
With these figures, “Orange becomes the second largest operator in terms of income and profitability within the Spanish market,” stated the telco.
The year closed with almost 20 million clients for Orange Spain, most of which are in the mobile segment. However, most growth was reported by the company’s fibre and pay-TV operations, two segments which not long ago were completely stagnant.
The French telco ended 2016 with 1.6 million FTTH homes, double that of 2015, and over half a million pay-TV subscriptions, 66% more than a year before, most of which were IPTV packages. Although still far behind the pay-TV market’s leader, Telefónica, Orange is now Spain’s third largest pay-TV provider.
The increase in pay-TV and fibre subscribers has also driven growth in convergent offers for the company. As of December 2016, 84% of Orange’s 3.9 million broadband clients had subscribed to a convergent package.
