A new online video application has been unveiled in Pakistan to stream live TV content, as well as films and other programming and series and music on-demand.
Tapmad TV currently offers a free, basic service with more than 140 live channels as well as a premium option at PKR250 a month, which delivers movies and TV shows over-the-top (OTT) in HD to subscribers. The service also provides a catch-up function to watch favourite shows that have been missed over a seven-day period, as well as a DVR option to record certain content.
One of the backers of Tapmad TV is Pakistani entrepreneur Nadeem Hussain, founder of PlanetN, a holding group that invests in existing and start-up companies, primarily in the sectors of big data, artificial intelligence, and digital services.
Tapmad will also be the official streaming partner of cricket team the Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2017, and provide other locally developed content for both iOS and Android platforms. An HDTV box for connection to TV sets will be available to purchase shortly, said Pasha.
Commenting on the launch, Tapmad TV founder and CEO Yasir Pasha said: “2017 will be the year of mobile entertainment in Pakistan ... With more than 15 million hours of video content being consumed in the last three months and currently engaging more than one million users, I expect Tapmad TV to lead that change.”
Live TV streaming is available from a range of Pakistani channels including TV One Global, 92 News, Express News, Dawn News, Play Max, Bol, Aaj News, Express, Dunya News and Samaa.
