For the twelve months ending last September, the number of subscribers grew by 4.6%, up 159,000, all of them due to the IPTV options driven by increasing fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) networks.
In all, Q3 2016 ended with 987,000 fibre-based pay-TV subscriptions, which means a 28.8% growth (+220,000 subs) year-on-year. On the other hand, cable TV lost 12,000 subscriptions during the last year, satellite TV 8,000 and ADSL TV over 40,000.
By the end of September, cable was still the leading broadcasting technology, representing 36.8%, followed by IPTV with 27.1%, ADSL TV (19.5%) and direct-to-home (DTH, 16.5%).
Regarding operators, Grupo Nos and Grupo Altice (MEO and Cabovisao) share most of the market with 43.5% and 39.4% of total subscribers respectively. Vodafone (12.2%) is the market’s third largest player.
