Tele2 Netherlands announced that it's opened up VoLTE to all its customers. The company first activated the 4G voice service in March and already around 170,000 customers actively use the service. From this week all new and existing business and consumer customers with a suitable handset will automatically use the service.
The operator noted that customers must have their phone updated to the latest version, with the necessary software from the manufacturer to access the VoLTE service. It's working with handset makers to increase the number of devices supported. VoLTE is already possible over 18 models from Samsung, as well as the Sony Xperia Z5s and Microsoft Lumia 550, 650 and 950 variants.
The company said this is an important step to running the mobile service entirely over its own 4G network. To date, Tele2 still relies on a wholesale agreement with T-Mobile for 3G and 2G access.
