AT&T launches OTT video streaming services

AT&T has officially launched three standalone video streaming services – the long-awaited DIRECTV NOW, FreeVIEW and Fullscreen. The offerings are aimed at the more than 20 million US households who have dropped cable or are flirting with cutting the cord.

“We’re extending our entertainment portfolio for those who value premium content, but also want more TV freedom suited for their lifestyle, whether watching at home or on their mobile devices,” said John Stankey, CEO, AT&T Entertainment Group. “This is TV your way. Our new customer-centric offers show that mobility and entertainment are better together.”

The services are zero-rated for AT&T Mobility customers.

DIRECTV NOW offers between 60 and 120 live TV channels in four tiers, which range from $35 to $70 per month. Fans of HBO and Cinemax can add these channels for just $5 additional each per month.

In 2017, new devices will be added to the line-up including Roku streaming players and Roku TV models, Amazon Fire tablets, and smart TVs from Samsung and other leading brands.

In collaboration with Fullscreen Media, the Fullscreen SVOD (launched earlier this year for $6 per month) offers over 1,500 hours of ad-free premium scripted and unscripted original series, TV shows and films licensed from studio partners. Fullscreen will be included at no charge for one year with eligible new and existing wireless plans with messaging service

FreeVIEW meanwhile is an ad-supported video service with a sampling of on-demand content from AUDIENCE Network, Otter Media properties and other channels on DIRECTV NOW.
