Sigfox raises EUR 150 million to expand LPWA networks

Sigfox, the French company behind the roll-out of LPWA networks for the IoT, has raised another EUR 150 million to support its global expansion.

Alto Invest, Salesforce Ventures, Henri Seydoux, Swen CP, Tamer Group and Total are new investors, and existing shareholders Bpifrance, Elliott, Intel Capital, Air Liquide, Idinvest Partners and IXO also participated in the Series E round. Additional new investors are also expected to join this financing round shortly to reach the EUR 150 million level, Sigfox said.

Sigfox has been partnering with operators around the world to launch the low-power, wide-area networks designed to support M2M applications at low cost, with minimal energy. Its partners use unlicensed spectrum for the IoT networks and Sigfox's commissioning platform.

Sigfox said more than 10 million objects are registered on the network in 26 countries. The new funding will help the company reach its target of a network in 60 countries by 2018 and to reach financial breakeven.

As part of the new investment from Salesforce.com, Sigfox plans to integrate with Salesforce’s IoT Cloud to help businesses manage and analyse the data collected over the IoT network.
