Zain Saudi to leverage utility’s 51,000km fibre network

Zain Saudi Arabia has revealed that it has signed an open ended Letter of Intent (LoI) with Dawiyat Telecom, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), which will allow Zain to leverage SEC’s 51,000km fibre-optic network. The agreement – which is subject to customary regulatory approvals – will also enable the two operators to market each other’s product and services. The companies disclosed that the financial impact of the agreement cannot be assessed at this stage.

In May 2016 Dawiyat obtained a Type (B) Class License from the Communications and IT Commission (CITC), which allowed the company to provide telecoms infrastructure leasing services for ten years.
