TalkTalk signs multi-year TV content deal with Sky

TalkTalk has renewed a content deal with Sky as it looks to boost its TV offering.

The two companies have inked a multi-year deal that gives TalkTalk customers access to Sky entertainment channels, live and on-demand content from Sky Sports and Sky Cinema, and pay-per-view services Sky Box Office.

The UK operator is attempting to reinvent itself following last year’s cyber attack, for which it has received a record £400,000 fine from the UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office.

Last week, the company made a number of changes to its tariff structure as it looks to regain the trust of consumers.

It has made two significant additions to its TV offering this year.

It added BT Sport channels in the summer and launched a pay-as-you-go service in April that leverages its acquisition of blinkbox.

Further, it said it plans to unveil upgrades to its set top box later this year.

Around 1.4 million customers are signed up to TalkTalk’s TV service, although the company lost 23,000 between April and June.

TalkTalk said this was due to a “focus on driving engagement rather than base growth”.

Aleks Habdank, Managing Director at TalkTalk TV, said: “Our service is going from strength to strength and our ambition to be the UK’s best value for money TV provider - offering customers flexible access to the widest range of free and paid for content - is firmly on track.

“Our investment in YouView, our app-based service, and securing some to the best content available is incredibly valued by our customers.

“TV continues to be a driving force for growth and customer loyalty and remains a priority for our business.”
