Cisco intros content security suite

Cisco has debuted Cisco Security for Video, which it claims amounts to a comprehensive approach to security for IP and cloud-based video production and delivery.

The suite includes VideoGuard Everywhere, which provides conditional access and multi-DRM based protection with advanced security and business rule-enforcement capabilities. It can be deployed and managed from the cloud, and simplifies integration with open APIs. Streaming piracy prevention meanwhile uses automated tools and methods to identify, verify and eliminate online streaming piracy in real time. And on the infrastructure security front, Cisco is combining multilayered, best-of-breed security solutions to deliver an architectural approach.

“Cisco security for video offers a best-of-breed approach that comes at a critical time when video services and infrastructure are increasingly open and cloud-based,” said Conrad Clemson, senior vice president, general manager, Service Provider Video Software, Cisco.

“Our operational security team is constantly tracking new forms of video piracy, and the Cisco Talos team is stopping 20 billion attacks per day on our customers’ networks. That in itself is a testament to the growing importance of holistic security for the video industry.”

First customers include Eastlink, Canada’s largest family-owned and operated telecommunications company; LeCloud, the cloud computing and data processing subsidiary of LeEco, one of the largest online video companies in China; Sky Europe; and Sony Pictures Networks India.

“Our vision is to connect everything that matters to modern consumers,” said Yazhou Wu, CEO of LeCloud. “We are committed to deepening our collaboration with Cisco in many areas, including building a DRM cloud platform to provide best-in-class DRM cloud services across all media formats and devices. We are creating and providing a global cloud ecosystem centered on life, business and society, and are building a vertically integrated ‘Eco-as-a-Service’ (EaaS) cloud model, delivering new values based on industry chain reorganisation.”
