Yahoo inks partnership with Hulu and launches TV watching experience

Just days after it was acquired by Verizon, Yahoo has launched a new TV-watching site - Yahoo View - offering TV shows, clips, recaps and the best of Tumblr fandom.

The new service is an extension of Yahoo’s long-standing distribution partnership with US over-the-top (OTT) provider Hulu. This means that it will be able to feature content from ABC, NBC, FOX (eight days after original broadcast) and other network sitcoms, day-after clips, and full seasons of anime and Korean drama. The new site features a ‘beyond the episode’ section that can visually block the enhanced content that might reveal spoilers about the current video playing, and picture-in-picture so viewers can continue to watch while browsing to other content without leaving the screen.

The company says that the launch of Yahoo View further emphasises its commitment to create an experience for people to consume content they care about while being able to connect with a community of like-minded fans. “Video is an important part of Yahoo’s strategy and we’re committed to delivering the best digital video content to our users. To date, we’ve streamed amazing experiences across sports, finance and news,” remarked Phil Lynch, vice president and head of media partnerships. “This partnership with Hulu is a natural extension of that strategy, bringing the best of TV and entertainment content to our lifestyle vertical.”
