Telecom Regulatory Authority of India or Trai on Tuesday issued a consultation paper seeking feedback on whether voice mail, audiotex and unified messaging service should be brought under Unified License (UL) guidelines.
Trai’s move follows the department of telecom’s (DoT) asking the regulator in January to examine the issue.
DoT has stated that in view of new technologies and new user applications and service delivery scenarios, there is a need to review the technical specifications, financial terms and conditions, scope and guidelines for services and the licence conditions, Trai said in its paper.
Trai’s paper addresses issues concerning separate licence for these services individually and the revision or redefining of technical specifications.
