Algerian mobile operator Djezzy celebrated World Telecommunication and Information Society Day on 17 May at the Sidi Abdellah cyber park near Algiers. Under the patronage of Post and ICT minister Imane Houda Faraoune Algerian experts and entrepreneurs debated the impact of ICT on the national economy and its direct repercussions on social progress. The ITU’s annual WTISD aims to reduce the digital divide and to raise awareness about the prospects that the internet and other ICT technologies can deliver in the social and economic areas.
The Orascom subsidiary said it was taking part in the event “to help young innovators and entrepreneurs find their potential and develop innovative and concrete solutions to help accelerate progress in realising Algeria’s objectives in its quest for sustainable development and the establishment of a digital economy.”
